Game of Thrones* Season 6 was full of big flashy moments like the Sansa Stark Stark feeding Ramsay Bolton to his own dogs and Cersei Lannister Lannister blowing up the Great Sept of Baelor, but a quieter but perhaps more rewarding standout was the miniature Stark reunion when Sansa and Jon crossed paths again. And, Season 7 looks like it’ll have an even more dramatic reunion, because A Girl is returning to Winterfell at last.
On Tuesday, a new video showcasing the costumes of Game of Thrones featured sneak peeks of the characters’ clothes and locations in Season 7. As eagle-eyed fans on Reddit pointed out, in a blink-and-you-miss-it moment, Sansa is shown with Needle in the crypts of Winterfell.
Needle, of course, is the sword Jon gave Arya at the beginning of Season 1. She’s treasured it ever since. She even hid it in Season 5, defying Jaqen H’ghar’s orders to throw it away to truly relinquish her former identity to become “no one.”
The setting of the Winterfell crypts is an interesting place for a Stark reunion not only for sentimental reasons. Since Bran Stark used his visions to discover that Lyanna Stark was Jon’s true mother, perhaps Arya and Sansa will learn this information at the same time that Jon does. It’s noteworthy that Jon also appears to be in the crypts in Season 7 photographs.
Although Sansa and Jon were never close, the Stark siblings have been apart and suffering since Season 1, which was why their reunion in “Book of The Stranger” was emotional. Season 7’s will pack even more of a punch, because Arya and Jon were close. Arya will also doubtlessly be impressed that her formerly Joffrey-loving sister is now a cold-blooded schemer.
Game of Thrones Season 7 premieres on July 16 on HBO.
