The Rock Reveals New 'Rampage' Characters

Dwayne Johnson will play an "animal loving anti-poacher Ranger from Rwanda" in his new film.

Dwayne Johnson took to Instagram on Monday to share a new, early look at his upcoming film Rampage. Based on the ‘80s arcade game of the same name, Rampage will star Johnson, Naomie Harris (Moonlight), and Jefferey Dean Morgan (Watchmen).

Johnson’s Insta post features a photo of him alongside Harris and Morgan, as well as a military-grade helicopter. Though it’s unclear whether or not Johnson is contractually obligated to wear a dirty, too-tight white t-shirt in every film he’s in (seriously, it’s kind of his look by now, right?), the photo was accompanied by this caption:

Rampaging nights with my partners in crime, Naomie Harris and Jeffery Dean Morgan. The animal loving anti-poacher Ranger from Rwanda, the groundbreaking geneticist from CRISPR and the cowboy himself from the OGA - the “other” government agency. Three gigantic mutated monsters (silverback, crocodile and grey wolf) rampaging across the country. Party in hell. We’ll see you there. #OnSet #Rampage 4-20-2018.

Rampage, the original ‘80s arcade game, follows a loose story about three gigantic monsters — George, a King Kong-esque gorilla transformed by an experimental vitamin, Lizzie, a Godzilla-esque lizard transformed by a radioactive lake, and Ralph, a giant werewolf transformed by a food additive — rampaging through U.S. cities over a 128-day period. Players are in control of the monsters and have to destroy every building and car and eat all the people, all the while dodging attacks by military forces.

Johnson also posted another photo to Instagram on Sunday, revealing a look at actor Jason Liles portraying the gorilla, George, through motion-capture technology.

It seems the movie will flip the story on its head, with the military joining up with government agencies and private citizens to take on the monsters.

Rampage is expected to premiere in theaters on April 20, 2018.
