New ‘Harry Potter’ Fan Film Shows Voldemort’s Dark Origins

Voldemort is immortalized onscreen as a pasty, nose-challenged guy, played by Ralph Fiennes — but a new, insanely high-quality Harry Potter fan film might change that perception. Titled Voldemort: Origin of The Heir, the film follows Tom Marvolo Riddle in his mysterious post-Hogwarts days as he evolves from a relatively normal looking young man into the fearsome villain Lord Voldemort.

The film’s trailer teases events like the house elf Hokey murdering her mistress Hepzibah Smith, a wealthy collector of antiquities. Recall that in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry and Dumbledore visited that memory using the Pensieve. As Harry learned, Hokey was, of course, framed for the crime. Tom Riddle charmed and murdered Smith in order to get Helga Hufflepuff’s cup, which he then turned into a Horcrux.

The film pits Riddle against the Gryffindor heir named Grisha McLaggen, who seems to be its own invention. She’s no doubt distantly related to Hermione’s one-time suitor Cormac McLaggen, but Grisha was never mentioned in Rowling’s books, nor is she in any Potter databases.

The film comes from Tryangle, an independent film production company, and it stars Italian actor Stefano Rossi as Tom Riddle.

According to Tryangle’s official site, the film has approval from Warner Bros. and a release date of “the end of 2017.”
