Watch a New 'Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets' Trailer
Featuring new aliens and a look at the future metropolis of Alpha.
Summer 2017’s biggest movie — or at least its most vibrant — might just be a colorful and epic space opera. The final trailer for Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets looks like Jupiter Ascending meets Guardians of the Galaxy.
Based on an iconic French comic called Valérian and Laureline by Pierre Christin, Valerian tells the story of two special operatives who maintain order in human galactic territories in the 28th century. Theirs is a peaceful future filled with progress, culture, and shared knowledge … but, of course, there’s a mysterious dark force threatening this idyllic universe. It’s up to Valerian and Laureline, played by Dane DeHaan (The Place Beyond The Pines) and Cara Delevingne (Suicide Squad) to save the day. Premise aside, Valerian is written and directed by French sci-fi visionary Luc Besson, who helmed The Fifth Element and Lucy.
The final trailer, released on Wednesday, features glimpses of the futuristic metropolis of Alpha and Clive Owen sternly telling Valerian and Laureline that they have less than ten hours to save the world — no big deal. It also features enough strange and colorful alien creatures to give Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them a run for its money.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets hits theaters on July 21.
