The first official Game of Thrones Season 7 trailer has arrived, and fans didn’t even need to spend an hour watching a block of ice melt. Although we’ve already seen two teasers, this is the first trailer containing new footage from the upcoming season.

At the end of Season 6, Jon Snow reunited with Sansa, took back Winterfell, and became King in the North. Bran’s visions also revealed that Jon is not Ned Stark’s bastard but rather the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, which gives him claim to the Iron Throne. Going into Season 7, the biggest question about Jon is when and how he will learn that information, whether it means he is Azor Ahai, and what he’ll do with it once he knows.

Daenerys Targaryen, meanwhile, is finally setting sail for Westeros after six seasons of wandering around Essos, amassing armies and displaying questionable political acumen. At the end of Season 6, she named Tyrion her Hand of the Queen. The biggest Season 7 question for her is how she’ll take the throne from Cersei and whether her experiences in Essos have truly prepared her for Westeros.

The end of Season 6 also saw Cersei blowing up half of King’s Landing — including most of House Tyrell — to take the throne, essentially becoming the Mad Queen. Arya Stark, meanwhile, returned to Westeros to take gruesome revenge for the Red Wedding. Season 7 has more dramatic Stark reunions in store and a long-awaited meeting between Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. The first official trailer teases a major showdown between Queen Cersei and Daenerys.

Game of Thrones Season 7 will be an abbreviated seven episodes instead of the usual ten, and it will premiere July 16 on HBO.
