Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 already had a whopping five post-credits scenes that expand the fabric of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But there was almost even more, with director James Gunn confessing there was a deleted sixth scene with Gamora and Mantis finding a wounded Ravager left in the ship.

Spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 below.

In Vol. 2, Steve Agee — a comedian best known for his time on The Sarah Silverman Program — plays a Ravager named Gef, who gets skewered by Yondu’s whistle arrow during the film. Gunn told USA Today that there was an additional post-credits scene in which Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Mantis (Pom Klenetieff) are seen talking until they hear Gef’s screaming from the pain. “We realize that Gef has been on the ship the entire time mortally wounded,” Gunn said. What was meant to be a funny, if slightly mean-spirited scene, wound up being “a little confusing,” since a lot of time had gone by since audiences had last seen this fairly minor, presumably dead character.

Although Gunn’s sharp comedic sensibilities would have ensured the scene would be worth a chuckle, it didn’t come to pass, which might be for the best. With five other post-credits scenes that are actually funny — Teen Groot! — this one being cut is not a huge loss.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is out now in theaters.
