Watch Elon Musk's Full 2017 TED Talk
"It’s important to have a future that is inspiring and appealing."
It’s been a week since the news-making TED Talk from Elon Musk, the serial entrepreneur behind overseeing the work at electric car maker Tesla and aerospace giant SpaceX, among other pursuits.
Memorably, Musk said told interviewer Chris Anderson at the end of the 40-minute interview in Vancouver at the TED 2017 conference, that ultimately, he’s trying to create a better future for humanity.
“I think the value of beauty and inspiration is very much underrated, no question,” Musk said. “But I want to be clear, I’m not trying to be anyone’s savior. I’m just trying to think about the future and not be sad.”
He also touched on why he’s so focused on making humans a multi-planet species.
“It’s important to have a future that is inspiring and appealing,” Musk said. “I just think that have to be reasons that you get up in the morning and you want to live. Why do you want to live? What’s the point? What inspires you? What do you love about the future? And if the future’s not including being out there among the stars and being a multi-planet species, it’s incredibly depressing if that’s not the future we’re going to have.”
