If anyone worried that Stephen King’s eight-book Dark Tower series was going to become a weird movie, then the new trailer will prove them correct. But, that’s also a great thing. Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey move effortlessly through this Western fantasy epic which is shaping up to be an instant classic, and possibly the best Stephen King adaptation yet.
After some teasing on Tuesday, the full-length trailer for The Dark Tower dropped on Wednesday. If one has never read the King book series, there is literally nothing to worry about. This film looks what might happen if The Neverending Story were fused with Django Unchained. It feels magical. It feels like a Western. But most of all, it feels totally fresh.
Fans of the books will be hard-pressed to find faults in the casting of Idris Elba as the gunslinger Roland Deschain. And Matthew McConaughey looks creepy-as-hell and ready to take that Man in Black title way from Ed Harris on Westworld.
