John Knoll, the visual effects veteran who hatched the concept of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is “tinkering” with another idea for a movie, but what could it be?
On Wednesday, The Hollywood Reporter published an article recapping comments made by Knoll during a panel which was part of the National Association of Broadcasters Show. Though not a screenwriter by trade, the famous VFX artist is nonetheless responsible for creating the momentum for the story of Rogue One. Unlike previous Star Wars movies, Rogue One was in pre-production with these artists before there was even a script written.
So, for a nonwriter, special effects guy, John Knoll’s success with getting Rogue One made proves he clearly has the magic touch with cool story ideas. What could his next Star Wars idea end up becoming? “There’s no reason to think Disney is going to stop wanting to make Star Wars movies if there’s quality and there’s interest,” he said in the interview.
So far, the standalone Star Wars movies have been focused on events which occur somewhere in an established timeline, so it stands to reason Knoll’s new concept would also be a throwback. But, we all know what Yoda says about the future and its constant state of motion.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is due out on December 15.
