'Deadpool 2' Has a Release Date, Frickin' Finally

by James Grebey

The Deadpool short that premiered before Logan earlier this year ended with the lamentable promise that the Merc with a Mouth would be returning to theaters “not soon enough.” Well, there’s finally some good news, as Fox officially announced the release date for the hotly anticipated sequel: June 1, 2018.

That’s not all, though. The studio has also confirmed the release dates for two additional X-Men films. April 13 will mark the premiere of a New Mutants movie, bringing the teenaged X-Men-in-training spin-off to the big screen. Then, on November 2, they’ll continue Jean Grey’s story with a Dark Phoenix movie.

While there aren’t many details about the other two movies, we already know a fair amount about Deadpool 2. Ryan Reynolds is returning as Deadpool, and he’ll be joined by Atlanta star Zazie Beetz as Domino and Josh Brolin as Cable. Brianna Hildebrand’s show-stealing Negasonic Teenage Warhead will return for the sequel, and the actress says her teenaged powerhouse will have grown up a lot by the time she tumbles with Deadpool again.

Producer Simon Kinberg mentioned in a February interview that there was a good chance that both Deadpool 2 and New Mutants might come out in the same year. He was right and then some. Now we just need to wait for 2018.
