Ever since Samuel L Jackson walked out of the shadows to invite Tony Stark to the Avengers Initiative at the end of Iron Man, Marvel fans have known to sit through the end credits for juicy extra scenes. Well, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 seems like it’s taking that to another level. According to director James Gunn, the upcoming sequel has five — that’s right five — post-credits scenes.
The first early press screenings for Vol. 2 took place on Monday night, and reporters who saw the film had almost universally positive things to say about it, with many saying that it’s funnier than the original. Based on these initial screenings, Screen Rant reported that there were four post-credits scenes, but Gunn was quick to correct them on Twitter.
“Well, five, actually,” he wrote, along with a cute lil smiling emoji.
Exactly what happens in the unprecedented number of post-credits scenes hasn’t been revealed yet (and we wouldn’t spoil the surprise here anyway), but we do know a little bit about the nature of the scenes. Four of the additional mid-credits scenes are mostly for laughs (think dancing Groot at the end of the first movie), although two of the five do set up plot points for future movies.
Watch all five of the post-credit scenes (as well as the rest of the movie) when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017.
