Ridley Scott Says Sigourney Weaver Could Return to 'Alien' Sequel

by Ryan Britt

After the crew of the Covenant battles the brutal neomorph aliens, there’s still a sequel or two before the continuity of these movies catches up with the original 1979 Alien. And according to director Ridley Scott, that means Sigourney Weaver could return as Ellen Ripley.

On Monday, the contents of the forthcoming print edition of Empire Magazine leaked online, including Alien: Covenant director Ridley Scott’s direct response to the idea of digitally “de-aging” Sigourney Weaver for a role in a future installment of the franchise. “You could do that,” Scott said, which is by no means a confirmation that something of that nature will happen.

Presumably, if Ellen Ripley were to appear in a sequel to Covenant it would be long before she ever encountered the deadly xenomorph and joined the crew of the Nostromo. So, if a de-aged CGI Sigourney Weaver as Ripley is part of a sequel that comes Alien: Covenant, it makes sense it would probably be a cameo. Perhaps we could see one scene of her getting into that sleep pod?

Alien: Covenant is out in wide release on May 19, 2017.
