Kelly Marie Tran’s character in The Last Jedi has been revealed, and she’s going to have a much bigger part in the movie than expected. Her name is Rose, and Star Wars: Episode VIII director Rian Johnson likened her story to the humble origins of Luke Skywalker.
“Anyone can step up and turn into a hero,” Johnson said. “That’s where Rose comes from. She gets pulled in a very big way into this adventure, and Kelly just embodies that for me.”
According to Johnson, “Rose is a maintenance worker in the Resistance,” and gets herself into an adventure with Finn. It’s unclear how much screen time Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose will have in the final movie, but her character is clearly set up here to be a big deal. And despite the huge talk about Rose on the panel, she was nowhere to be found when the trailer for The Last Jedi was finally screened.
