The Transformers have been living amongst humans for centuries, but the latest installment in Michael Bay’s Transformers series will finally out them. A new teaser trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight, the franchise’s fifth film, takes a look at the history of the Transformers on Earth.

“For a thousand years we’ve kept it hidden, the secret history of Transformers,” Anthony Hopkins, who will play Sir Edmund Burton in The Last Knight, intones in the new teaser. This audio is played over a collection of mostly blurry microfiche images and newspaper clippings, revealing supposedly important moments throughout history that have Transformers involved. Humans stand beside Transformers, seeming totally unfazed by them through war, flight, and discovery. Curiously, a lot of the Transformers seem like they were aligned with the Axis in World War II. No doubt, the Transformers at the time were bemused by humanity’s simple societies. They’d had the kind of technology humans were striving for in place for millennia.

But it seems The Last Knight is looking to bring that secret history out of the shadows. Humanity is at war with the Transformers in The Last Knight, and the discovery of their long-time occupation of Earth probably won’t help calm the waters.

Transformers: The Last Knight premieres in theaters June 23, 2017.
