Marvel Maybe Revealed Who Sylvester Stallone Is Playing in ‘Guardians’
It’s a bit of a long shot, but Marvel might have accidentally let slip via an Italian press release exactly who Sylvester Stallone is playing in the upcoming *Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2*. If it’s legit, he would basically be a galactic god.
Slashfilm reports that it looks like Stallone will be playing Stakar Ogord, aka Starhawk, based on a tweet from Italian site Movies Book that highlights a press release supposedly coming from Marvel itself. The specific line in question roughly translates to “… and Sylvester Stallone in the role of Stakar and Kurt Russell in the role of Ego.”
Sure, Kurt Russell as Ego is 100 percent true, and we do know that Stallone — along with Michael Rosenbaum — also have roles in the film deemed “important to the MCU” by director James Gunn himself. But this is the first anyone has heard of Stallone’s role, which rumors say is related to Yondu’s Ravagers somehow.
If Stallone is indeed playing Stakar, then he’ll bring a truly bizarre character to life on screen, as he’s traditionally the son of Quasar (a being of pure quantum energy) and Kismet/Ayesha (a godlike villain who we know for sure is in Vol 2, as played by Elizabeth Debicki) and brings a slew of crazy galactic powers to the table. Whether Stallone is Sakar or not, he might have something to do with the Ravagers mutiny Yondu’s going to deal with, spurring the blue man to join up with the Guardians. For now, take the rumor with a grain of salt until we get some sort of official announcement.
Either way, we’ll know soon enough, as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 releases May 5.
