The next season of Doctor Who will finally arrive after a nearly two-year long absence, and after its very first new episode, it will apparently spoil the rest of the season.
On Tuesday, after a press screening of the premier episode of the 10th season, The Radio Times reported that outgoing Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat told those in attendance to “close their eyes” to avoid a giant spoiler. Apparently, just moments after the conclusion of the new episode, titled “Pilot,” another trailer will play which Moffat feels gives away a huge secret. But, he’s devised a way for people to avoid it if they want.
“At the very end of the trailer there is, frankly, an enormous spoiler, a spoiler that may actually melt your brains,” he said. “But I promise you, you’d be better off not knowing because awesome though it will be here, it will be even more awesome in a few weeks’ time. So we’re gonna give you the option, in our frankly camp and ridiculous way …” The “option” Moffat refers to is going to be a countdown clock. After the new episode of Doctor Who ends, viewers will be shown a countdown clock to give them the option to not be spoiled from the trailer for the next episode.
While the countdown clock is sort of a brilliant way for fans to stay pure, what spoiler could be so big that fans will want to turn away? David Tennant is back? The Doctor is going to regenerate into a horse? Missy is really Romana? Bill is River Song? For those who can’t wait for the spoiler — whatever it is — the premier of Doctor Who Season 10 is just around the corner on April 15 on BBC and BBC America at 9pm EST.
