Ape leader Caesar “did not start this war” with the humans of the planet Earth, but he totally “will finish this.” The new War for the Planet of the Apes trailer finds Caesar going apeshit bananas over massive atrocities committed by Woody Harrelson’s new villain.
On Thursday, 20th Century Fox released the new trailer for War for the Planet of the Apes, and it just might turn out to be the best of the new Apes films yet. Seemingly combining aspects from two of the original films — Conquest for the Planet of the Apes and Battle for the Planet of the Apes — the new footage shows many of the apes enslaved by humans, but also an all out war between multiple factions. As in the old films, it looks like some apes are on the side of humans, and others aren’t. There’s also a kind of nuclear winter suggested, which is very reminiscent of Charlton Heston blowing up the whole Earth in Beneath the Planet of the Apes. Could all of this be leading to a kind of reconciliation of the original films; a far into the future Earth where apes rule and humans are nothing more than dumb animals?
