Surprising no one, Rey will be wielding a lightsaber in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but that doesn’t mean fans and critics aren’t super-excited about it. Footage from The Last Jedi was screened at CinemaCon on Tuesday, and while it sounds like it was a just a snippet of the same footage that was shown to Disney shareholders on March 8, Rey using the Force and spinning a lightsaber is going to make everyone’s year.
According to several journalists in attendance, Rey using “her” lightsaber is definitely featured in the new footage. While this isn’t exactly a shock, the reports seem to confirm that for at least a portion of the film, Rey will still be using the famous blue-bladed Skywalker lightsaber and not one of her own construction. This also seems to confirm that Rey will probably not have a double-bladed lightsaber, even though we know she’s pretty good with a staff already.
Seriously, everybody is pumped about lightsabers in Star Wars movies.
We’ve probably all got lightsaber withdrawal since the only lightsaber action in Rogue One was at the end. (If you don’t count the Death Star being retroactively made into a giant lightsaber.)
Star Wars: The Last Jedi: A Movie With Lightsabers, opens on December 15, 2017.
