Through six seasons of Game of Thrones, Jorah has fruitlessly pined for Daenerys Targaryen. And Iain Glen, who plays Jorah, implied in a recent interview that his situation will not change in Season 7. He’s not getting together with Daenerys because like Severus Snape before him, Jorah Mormont is doomed to pine forever.
“Jorah ponders it too much, I think,” he said. “Jorah’s (n)ever going to get it.”
At the end of Season 6, Jorah and Daenerys reunited after Daenerys banished him for his betrayal. After he teamed up with Daario to rescue Dany from Vaes Dothrak, she forgave him. However, he also revealed that he had contracted the deadly disease of greyscale during their time apart in Season 5. Daenerys commanded him to go find a cure for this legendary and incurable disease. The end of the season saw him setting off on yet another impossible mission for his Khaleesi.
Curiously, it seems like greyscale could indeed be an important plot point moving forward. Season 7 set reports have placed Jorah with characters as important as Jon Snow. But whether or not the show introduces a cure, it sounds like it won’t introduce Jorah as a viable suitor for Dany. Valar morghulis, Jorah.
Game of Thrones Season 7 premieres July 16 on HBO.
