The Major’s ability to cloak her entire body in an invisibility shield is on display in a new uninterrupted full clip from Ghost in the Shell. Although a bit of this scene has been glimpsed before in trailers and TV spots, this is the real deal. This is the fight scene as it will actually appear in the film.
The fight combines a great invisibility effect with a dramatic water setting, resulting in the surreal manga character of the Major feeling real. In terms of visual style, this is easily the biggest challenge the film faces: how to convince audiences of the reality of this trans-humanist future while still honoring the original anime movie and manga story. The solution seems to be in the combination of excellent stunts and great real-world visuals. The story of the Major may be familiar, but this new clip makes the action seem refreshingly new.
