Uber, the massive ride-sharing company, is not having a great 2017. The following video, though, is not about the massive cultural, societal, and legal problems Uber is dealing with. No, it’s a video of one Uber driver who lost control of his car and careened straight through a gas pump, creating a massive fireball that was all caught on video.
Seattle’s KOMO News reports that the driver, a 60-year-old, was behind the wheel of a 2007 Nissan X-Terra with an Uber passenger in the back seat shortly before 8 p.m. on Monday when something went wrong. He hit another car, seriously injuring the 35-year-old driver. His own SUV kept going, and there are witnesses who say he might have tried to break or had a blown tire.
The Uber kept going, eventually jumping a curb, flying through a Shell station, and plowing straight through a gas pump which exploded in a dramatic fashion.
The passenger only sustained minor injuries and the driver was fine, despite the blast. The driver was, however, taken to the hospital and given a blood test, though the results haven’t been released yet.
“Our hearts and thoughts go out to all those involved in this terrible accident, and the driver has been removed from the app,” an Uber spokesperson told KOMO, adding that Uber was working with the Seattle Police Department.
