“When an antique clock breaks, fixing it can be a real puzzle.” The same could be said of small-town murder, and a new podcast from the minds behind Serial and This American Life is going to try to solve that puzzle later this month.

The podcast released an audio teaser trailer on Tuesday via its official website, which features a floral, chronophile aesthetic in line with the show’s overall premise. As host Brian Reed explains, “An antique clock restorer contacted me and asked me to help him solve a murder.”

The clock restorer, John, reached out to the This American Life producer, looking for help investigating “the son of a wealthy family who’s allegedly been bragging that he got away with murder.” It’s a scandal that’s really made the Alabama town into a “shit town” (hence the name of the podcast, S-Town).

Reed heeds the call, “But then someone else ends up dead, sparking a nasty feud, a hunt for hidden treasure, and an unearthing of the mysteries of one man’s life.” And so, with three years of reporting, a podcast was formed under Serial Productions, the production company formed by Serial co-creators Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder.
