The families of Westeros have been fighting for generations over who will wear the crown, but Season 7 of Game of Thrones is promising to bring their attention to the only threat that matters: the Night King and his White Walkers.
The official Game of Thrones Twitter account released a teaser trailer for Season 7 on Thursday, featuring house sigils coming to life, strangling one another and eventually crumbling as they struggle amongst themselves and allow the Night King to reign.
“I know what my father was, what he did,” Daenerys Targaryen says as her three dragons bare their teeth “I know the mad king earned his name.
The Baratheon stag, Lannister lion, Stark Direwolf, Greyjoy Kraken, Mormont bear, and the thorns of the House Tyrell slowly strangle one another as their various lords and kings promise pain and revenge upon other houses.
“Lannister, Targaryen, Baratheon, Stark, Tyrell — they’re all just spokes on a wheel,” Daenerys says. “This one’s on top, then that one’s on top and on and on it spins, crushing those on the ground.” The statues crumble and the now-common spiral pattern associated with the Children of the Forest and the White Walkers is revealed, only to be replaced with the eye of the Night King.
“The same thing is coming for all of us,” says a man who sounds like Jon Snow, the King in the North as of the end of Season 6. He and the rest of the North will be the first safeguard against the White Walkers, so it makes sense for him to have the last word. “There’s only one war that matters: the Great War. And it is here.”
Game of Thrones Season 7 premieres July 16.
