The first poster for Game of Thrones Season 7 has been unveiled, and at first glance it seems like a very literal interpretation of the book series title, “A Song of Ice and Fire.” But looking closely, it actually depicts a major event that will happen at the climax of the season, if rumors are to be believed.
The night is dark and full of spoilers, so turn back now if you’re spoiler-shy.
According to an alleged leak regarding the plot details of Season 7, the Wall is going to come falling down. The Night’s King will attack it with help from the re-animated version of one of Daenery’s dragons, who breathes blue fire in his wight form. If this is true, that means Season 7 will conclude with the burning of the wall.
And in that case, for a show that has defined modern spoiler-culture as we know it, it’s deliciously ironic that the Season 7 poster is completely spoiling its own biggest event.
Regardless of whether the leaks pan out, Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen will finally meet after six seasons of build-up — which will indeed be a crescendo to the song of ice and fire. Here’s the poster:
