New 'Fantastic Beasts' Deleted Scene Shows Credence's Dark Soul
Ezra Miller’s character Credence Barebone is one of the most intriguing parts of Harry Potter spinoff series Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. And in a new deleted scene exclusive to Collider his Obscurus wreaks havoc through New York City.
Credence isn’t just interesting because he can turn into a swirling dark cloud of repressed magic. His Obscurus also connects to the Potter series in the form of explaining what happened to Dumbledore’s sister. By repressing her magic, Ariana Dumbledore was also an Obscurus, which killed her mother and ultimately led to the legendary feudbetween Dumbledore and Grindelwald. It also might connect to its future.
In the new clip, Credence’s Obscurus interacts with Jon Voight’s character Henry Shaw Senior. After Credence kills Shaw’s son, Shaw does not appear in much more of the film. His memory is erased at the end along with the rest of the New York City No-Maj population.
However, producer David Heyman already spilled the beans that Credence is not really dead. We can therefore expect him to play a role in the ensuing four movies — he could even be Snape’s grandfather. It’s possible Shaw could also return as a continued antagonist.
Although Shaw’s continued presence is not certain, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is not the last of Credence for this five-film franchise.
