Yes, the new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer has the single most important thing that any Guardians trailer should have: shots of Baby Groot being absurdly adorable. But, the new preview also offered fans our first look at an important new character: Kurt Russel’s Ego the Living Planet, aka Peter Quill’s dad.

The spot premiered on Tuesday during an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, but the version that aired on TV left out the biggest reveal. After the Vol. 2 logo flashes on the screen, we see Peter, Drax, Gamora, and Nebula in a clearing, facing down a huge white building of sorts. A round door opens up, and they stand agog as two figures emerge. One, Russell’s Ego, speaks up.

“After all these years I’ve found you,” he says.

“And who the hell are you?” Star-Lord replies.

“I’m your dad, Peter,” Ego says, somewhat knowingly, as the trailer cuts to black.

Well, it ain’t “No, I am your father,” but that’s not what Guardians is all about.

The other big highlight of the trailer, as mentioned, is Baby Groot being adorable. The shot of the little tree buddy munching on candy in a dangerous situation is heart-melting …
