Ryan Reynolds Will Co-Write 'Deadpool' Spin-Off 'X-Force' Too
The superpowered persistence of Ryan Reynolds has proven to be a valuable IRL asset, and now the actor will co-write a Deadpool-centric team-up movie focused on the X-Force with Joe Carnahan, who’s set to direct the film.
Reynolds has been trying real hard for awhile now to make this film a reality, mainly because giving the Deadpool-verse the Avengers treatment would be pretty fucking cool. With Deadpool 2 moving ahead rapidly, the next stop for the Merc with a Mouth will be this untitled X-Force film.
Not to be confused with the pretty lame Team X that a version of Deadpool was a part of with Logan during X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the X-Force is the foulmouthed, darker, grittier counterpart to the do-gooders who are the X-Men. They’re a Rob Liefeld creation from 1991 (much like Deadpool himself) and are usually pretty militant and real aggressive by comparison. They also sometimes sport coordinated black-and-white costumes that are not likely to make their way into the live-action treatment.
In the comics, the X-Force has included a rotating slew of superpowered individuals including Wolverine, Colossus, Domino, Forge, Cyclops, Wolfsbane, Warpath, X-23, Storm, Deathlok, Bishop, Nightcrawler, Fantomex, Psylocke, and Cable. We can almost certainly rule out Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, and a number of these characters already exist within the 20th Century Fox X-Men universe, even as recently as X-Men: Apocalypse and in the case of X-23 in Logan. Cable — as played by some actor who may or may not be Pierce Brosnan but definitely isn’t Kyle Chandler — is confirmed to be in Deadpool 2, so a follow-up is only natural. Domino has also been confirmed for Deadpool 2, with fans clamoring for Kerry Washington to take on the role.
Deadpool 2 is slated to begin production in early May with a release sometime in 2018, with this untitled X-Force movie some time after.
