Recut Footage of 'Game of Thrones' Star Creates Convincing Case for New 'Doctor Who'

by Caitlin Busch

Cool, seductive, and endlessly mysterious, Margaery Tyrell would make one hell of a face for the next Doctor. As debates about who will replace Peter Capaldi and take on the role of the 13th titular Time Lord on Doctor Who, the talented Natalie Dormer’s name has been thrown into the ring via a fan-cut video.

Footage from Selma, Star Trek Into Darkness, Suffragette, The Flash, and more were used, in addition to brief clips of Dormer in Elementary and an intro to the video “A True Travel Story, Told By Natalie Dormer.” While the video by Youtube user OdinNorse7 feels a bit stunted, it’s a fun ride that plays with ideas about what Dormer’s adventures as the 13th Doctor would be like.

Ancient civilizations, fantastical planets, and world-ending events take precedent in a Doctor Who season that would be bigger and better than ever. The Daleks, the Cybermen, and protesting suffragettes are the big focuses alongside Hugh Laurie in what looks to be a companion role. Or, maybe he’ll be the next incarnation of the Master.

Dormer is best known for her role as Margaery Tyrell on Game of Thrones. Marg was a big-time fan favorite, dealing in manipulation and underhanded compliments to get what she wanted before dying in a fiery green explosion in a church at the end of Season 6. The English actress is also venerated for her time on Elementary as both Irene Adler and Moriarty, and as Cressida in the movie adaptation of Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay (Parts 1 and 2).

So, Dormer’s got the drama and science fiction chops needed to take the reins of the titular Time Lord role, as well as a noticeably open schedule at the moment. As far as the first female Doctor goes, the minds behind Doctor Who could do a lot worse.
