A new comic coming from Dark Horse, The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars, shows Korra and Asami journeying the Spirit World on their romantic vacation immediately following the series finale — and it includes a cheery ride on the back of some sort of Phoenix Spirit.
Following an epic confrontation between Korra and Kuvira in the series finale, the latter shot the former with the arm cannon from a giant mech, but Korra was able to bend the energy to deflect the blast, ultimately tearing a hole between worlds and opening up yet another portal to the Spirit World right in the middle of the city. The series’s final moments saw Korra and Asami venturing through that portal, hand in hand, presumably to start both their life together and yet another great adventure for the Avatar.
Though the relationship surprised many, it wasn’t exactly shocking, and many fans adored the “Korrasami” ship straightaway — and now, we’ll all be getting even more about their journey together. Here are some preview pages of the comic, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly:
You can see Korra and Asami emerging from the portal — quite literally — the very moment that the animated series ended, and they remain close to moving forward on their journey through the whimsical Spirit World.
Asami wonders aloud how they’ll start their vacation as they look out over this scene. Oh, hey look! A Moltres. And just when you think, “Wouldn’t it be great if they rode it?” that is exactly what happens:
Though Turf Wars will feature quite a bit of Korra and Asami’s journey together — including a run-in with a huge rock golem, picnics, and swimming — the tale will bring the pair back into Republic City to deal with a new threat in people trying to commercialize access to the spirit gate (of course), along with expected tensions from the Spirit World. Series co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino explains, “It’s kind of like the aftermath dealing with the new portal in the city, and all the evacuees coming back to find their homes wiped out because of the portal.” So amidst this blossoming new romantic relationship, “Korra has to figure out how to find a new balance in the city with all this stuff that’s gone on.”
Look for The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars when it hits retailers this June.
