The hot desert sands of the Skywalker family’s home planet Tatooine, will probably only be visited once in the current season of Disney XD’s Star Wars Rebels. This means, there’s only a finite amount of time Obi-Wan Kenobi will even be glimpsed. A recently revealed synopsis of an upcoming episode of Rebels hints at Ezra traveling to Tatooine, but not staying for very long.
Season 5, Episode 20 of Rebels — set to premiere March 18 — is titled “Twin Suns.” Its synopsis reads:
In response to a vision of Maul, Ezra opposes Hera and Kanan and travels to a remote planet where he hopes to prevent the Sith Lord from carrying out his plan.
The mid season trailer for Rebels revealed that Darth Maul will travel to Tatooine in Season 3 in order to sneak up on Obi-Wan Kenobi. The two will most likely duel it out in the sand, much like they did in the previously non-canon story “Old Wounds.”
There’s a good chance that Tatooine will only appear in a single episode in Season 3. “Twin Suns” is the only episode hinting at the desert planet and the involvement of Maul, which means there’s an even greater chance that Obi-Wan will only be hanging around for that episode. What reason would Obi-Wan have to leave Tatooine, especially if he’s still stalking (uh, protecting) Luke Skywalker.
If Ezra is responding rashly to a vision of Maul on Tatooine, perhaps the vision he has is the images seen in the mid season trailer where Maul sneaks up behind Obi-Wan as he’s bent over a fire. Ezra would certainly want to get the best of Maul and take the chance to save a Jedi master.
Season 5 of Star Wars Rebels returns this Saturday, February 18.
