With comic book luminaries like Stan Lee and Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld making cameos in hit superhero movies based on their characters, Thanos creator Jim Starlin is feeling a little left out. Starlin put up a Facebook post following the release of the Avengers: Infinity War teaser this weekend with a not-so-subtle request to the film’s directors to put Starlin in the upcoming film Avengers film as a cameo.
Jim Starlin is a veteran comic book writer who created such characters as Drax and Gamora from the hit Guardians of the Galaxy series, as well as Thanos, the primary antagonist of the next big Avengers film, Infinity Wars. His other comic book creations have already been featured in other superhero films like his KGBeast villain who appeared in DC’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Unfortunately, Starlin lamented in a previous Facebook post that he was paid more for KGBeast’s appearance in the rival DC film than he has for all of his Marvel characters’ appearance combined.
However, it’s not all hard feelings with Starlin. In a following post he wrote after the Infinity War teaser, Starlin noted the cover of his book, The Infinity Gauntlet was featured in the teaser and appears more than willing to make a cameo in the film, calling out directors Anthony and Joe Russo that he’s “ready for his close-up.”
Since the beginning of the superhero movie craze, Marvel figurehead Stan Lee has made a cameo in nearly every Marvel superhero property to date. His cameos range from innocuous extras to pervy strip-club DJs like in Fox’s Deadpool which also featured a very brief cameo from the hero’s creator, Rob Liefeld. It will wait to see whether Starlin will also make a cameo in the upcoming film, considering he is responsible for creating its main villain and half the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters May 4, 2018.
