We’ve got the confirmation: “In Avengers: Infinity War, the Avengers will meet the Guardians of the Galaxy,” says Kevin Feige, veteran producer of over a dozen Marvel films, in a new teaser clip Marvel released on Friday evening. Fan reactions have been positive, to put it mildly. The new film will bring together characters from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe and blow a few minds along the way. Since the beginning of the MCU, the goal has been to tell individual characters’ stories while maintaining continuity across multiple franchises. Infinity War represents the apex of this action that has been rising over the past decade. It’s no small task.

“How can things relate across movies and across years?” asks Feige. This is the task that he and his fellow filmmakers face as they bring together beloved characters from across the MCU for Infinity War.

Avengers: Infinity War is the culmination of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, as started in May of 2008 with the release of Iron Man 1,” says Feige in the clip, “And it really is an unprecedented culmination of a series of films, interlinked together, which at the time had never been done before. And for us, the important thing is making it all come together.”

The teaser opens with scenes from previous Marvel films, including the moment when the Infinity Stone was placed into Vision’s forehead. Needless to say, the Infinity Stones will probably play a major role in the new film. Then we see Chris Pratt, Robert Downey Jr., and Tom Holland on the set of Infinity War, talking about how thrilled they are to be doing the project. And they’re not the only ones who are excited. Fans are freaking out over the opportunity to see their favorite characters from Marvel films on the same screen.

This MCU ensemble cast is a huge part of the movie’s appeal, and the filmmakers know it. “The most exciting part is the incredible roster of well-developed characters,” says co-directer Joe Russo, “And that’s gonna create a really combustible, exciting, massive-scale adventure.”

Feige says Civil War set the stage for Infinity War by tearing the Avengers apart, making them unprepared for the inevitable moment they face the ultimate foe, Thanos. “The end of that movie was very much a setup,” says co-director Anthony Russo in the new clip.

The filmmakers promise that Infinity War will be a cinematic experience unlike any other. Based on what they’ve shown so far, we’re not doubting it.
