More Lego Superhero Movies Are Coming After 'Lego Batman'
Batman has gone Lego in The Lego Batman Movie, an adorning spoof of today’s larger than life superhero movies. But will these Lego films also spawn its own interconnected universe? Producer Dan Lin says it’s entirely possible and that he would “love to tell more Lego superhero movies.”
In an interview timed with the release of The Lego Batman Movie, Lin says that there are “so many stories to tell” since Lego Batman has “multiple Lego superheroes.”
“I hope it’s endless!” he added. “I approached these Lego movies as if we’re trying to reinvent different genres in a Lego way. The first movie was kind of a cult adventure movie, kind of a kids’ Matrix. This one is a superhero movie.”
Lin then teased future Lego movies in development, including one that is “a martial arts movie” before going into Lego 2, presumably a sequel to 2014’s The Lego Movie. “I can’t tell you about the other genres, but we’re really looking at each genre and going, how do we tell it in our own Lego way?”
Lin’s wish might already be coming true. During this week’s episode of Supergirl, a CW commercial advertising The Lego Batman Movie included a crossover with Lego versions of the Flash, Green Arrow, Supergirl, and the Atom from DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, all of them voiced by their respective TV stars. Although it’s just a (really cute and funny) commercial, it’s the first time the DC films have “crossed over” with the television universe.
The Lego Batman Movie hits theaters February 10.
