New 'Iron Fist' Trailer Sets Kung Fu to Thundering Dubstep

A new trailer for Netflix’s upcoming Iron Fist shows Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist, (Finn Jones) surviving a plane crash and returning barefoot to New York City where he teams up with Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick). Rand is automatically assumed to be a nuisance by his father’s company, but the security guards at Rand Enterprises learn the hard way that Danny isn’t going anywhere.

The trailer confirms that Danny’s parents — founders of Rand Enterprises — died in a plane crash of which Danny was the sole survivor. He was trained in martial arts techniques by warriors in K’un-Lun, and now he’s back in New York City to take back his father’s company and cast out the “criminals” in charge. But he won’t be alone: Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick), the samurai-trained fighter will be at his side.

Also in the picture: the ubiquitous Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson), judging him the whole way.

The entirety of the trailer is set to pounding dubstep music, only further confirming that Marvel is looking to make Iron Fist as musically relevant for dubstep as Luke Cage was for hip-hop. It’s a bold (if not unexpected) move on Marvel’s part, but maybe the hard-hitting beat is just what a project like Iron Fist — which is already being mocked relentlessly online — really needs to get it off the ground.

Iron Fist Season 1 will be available on Netflix March 17.
