'The Flash' Just Changed Its Doomed Future with Savitar

by Eric Francisco
The CW

Following a fun, meet cute deathmatch between Vibe (Carlos Valdes) and Earth-19 bounty hunter Gypsy (Jessica Camacho) which spanned the multiverse, “Dead or Alive” revealed how Team Flash plans to avoid a deadly possible future where Savitar kills Iris: Swap out the Flash for Central City’s newest star, Kid Flash.

Both Flashes are currently Central City darlings with literal cheerleaders fawning over them. But the clock is still ticking towards May when Savitar will kill Iris, and Flash won’t be fast enough to stop him. Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) isn’t getting faster, but Wally West (Keiyan Lonsdale) is gaining speed far quicker than his ruddier predecessor. Since their original plan to alter the future without H.R. went out with Gypsy, Barry decides to remove another aspect of the future scenario — himself. But will tagging in Wally still be enough to stop Savitar?

While Wally is training for that fateful date in May, the rest of Team Flash will attempt to alter every nasty scenario they know is headed their way thanks to an earlier trip to that dark future. It’s a sound plan, in theory, but time travel can be tricky. By changing the present, are they only making the future inevitable?

After failing to remove H.R. from the equation — because, as it turns out, they actually love the guy, even Cisco — the rest of The Flash could be one long episode of That’s So Raven. Music Meister will get rich, Caitlin will turn into Killer Frost, the S.T.A.R. Labs Museum will close, and Gorilla Grodd is on his way. Things are about to get really bleak in Central City. For the Flash, the only way to confront these things is head-on.

The Flash airs Tuesdays on the CW.
