'Deadpool vs. Wolverine' Trailer Feels Very 'Lethal Weapon'
There’s no question that Wolverine and Deadpool should headline a big budget movie together. But what if their movie were a violent, retro romp released on a dusty VHS tape? A fan-made trailer from We Got This Covered imagines a Deadpool/Wolverine movie with a trailer in the style of Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, and practically anything John Woo made 20 years ago. The result is a gleefully violent action trailer, and it’s awesome.
With footage spliced from Deadpool and every X-Men movie, including the trailer for Logan and X-Men: The Last Stand (‘cuz of the Juggernaut, bitch!), this theoretical Deadpool and Wolverine movie looks precisely like the action movies that hit theaters when Rob Liefeld first introduced Deadpool in New Mutants and Barry Windsor-Smith went gruesome in Wolverine’s slasher-inspired Weapon X storyline.
In addition to Wolverine and Deadpool slicing and dicing bad dudes, the film goes the extra mile introducing extra X-characters like Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Psylocke (Olivia Munn), and yes, the Juggernaut (Vinnie Jones). We Got This Covered also adds in Mister Sinister, the X-Men supervillain who is a genius master manipulator, with doctored images of Mads Mikkelsen as the character.
Retro-style trailers are a recent phenomenon. A similar trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier from a YouTuber named ChiefBrodyRules also reimagined the Marvel Studios tentpole in a ‘90s VHS-style trailer. There’s certainly something fun about seeing today’s polished action movies as something dirtier and grittier.
Logan will be released March 3.
