Superman Breaks Both Legs While Skiing

Superman may be the Man of Steel, but Tim Daly, the voice actor who portrayed him in The Animated Series and the rest of the DCAU, sure isn’t. Daly broke both of his legs in a skiing accident while vacationing at Sundance, according to reports.

The 60-year-old actor was the definitive Superman for a generation of fans who grew up watching the now-iconic cartoons, so it’s a relief that he’s going to be okay. Variety reports that he broke his right ankle and left knee and was scheduled to go into surgery on Wednesday.

Daly currently has an on-camera role on the CBS drama Madam Secretary, where he plays the husband of the secretary of state (Téa Leoni). Producers say they’ll find a way to either shoot around him during the six-to-eight weeks he’ll need to recover, or they’ll write his injury into the plot.

Although Daly might not have Superman’s endurance, he does share Clark Kent’s optimism. Daly tweeted about his injury on Wednesday, and he appeared to be in good spirits.

In the comics, Superman has encountered the Black Racer, a Jack Kirby creation who embodies death and gets around on cosmic skis, but as far as I can tell, the Black Racer never broke Superman’s legs.
