Each day creeps forward like a xenomorph stalking its pray in some godforsaken spaceship, but hey at least that means its one day closer to the release of Alien: Covenant! The Prometheus sequel and Alien prequel from OG series director Ridley Scott will get released on May 19, and the films social media accounts have been gradually posting stills from the new movie. This time we get a glimpse at actress Katherine Waterston’s character Daniels, who’s looking particularly Ripley-like.
Daniels is stationed on the colony ship Covenant, which is on a search and rescue mission to find the characters played by Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender who high-tailed it off the Engineer-infested moon LV-223 at the end of Prometheus.
The photo shows Waterston’s character coming across some dog tags in a darkened corridor somewhere. We don’t remember Rapaces Elizabeth Shaw character or Fassbender’s android David ever wearing dog tags, so they probably don’t belong to them.
It’s possible that they might belong to one of the members of the colony ship. Since this is an Alien movie, there’s a good chance the crew of the Covenant gets picked off one by one.
The real fascinating thing about the image, which was briefly seen in the first teaser trailer released late last year, is that Daniels is reminiscent of the space trucker vibe Sigourney Weaver’s iconic heroine Ripley had in the 1979 original. There’s been serious debate by fans about whether Daniels is somehow related to Ripley, which, if you ask us, is kind of ridiculous. To suggest some kind of hereditary connection between Ripley and the xenomorphs would ruin the idea that she’s an everywoman badass.
We’ll all get to discover what lies in the darkness when Alien: Covenant hits theaters on May 19.
