Despite not being able to “afford” any of the big-name X-Men, Deadpool was able to introduce two mutant superheroes to great success, Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Thanks to their standout performance in the first film, the two X-Men will return for Deadpool 2.
In an interview with Collider, Deadpool screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed that both Colossus and Negasonic would return in Deadpool 2 in some capacity, though were coy about how big their roles will actually be.
PAUL WERNICK: I can’t say how much they are…
RHETT REESE: I think we can say. Yeah, they’ll be in the sequel
WERNICK: Yeah, they’ll make at least an appearance.
In Deadpool, Colossus played a doting authority figure who looked out for Deadpool, while Negasonic was portrayed as a moody teen, albeit with a badass X-Men name and cool disposition. Despite a limited screentime, the two made big impressions on fans.
The mutant cast list of Deadpool 2 is already larger than the previous film with Domino and Cable confirmed for the sequel. And there’s no doubt there will be some surprise cameos or appearances given Deadpool’s higher profile in the world of superhero cinema.
While it will be interesting to see how Colossus and Negasonic will fit into the Deadpool sequel, the two characters, Negasonic in particular, are now firmly entrenched in the Deadpool universe. Her character even became a regular in the ongoing Deadpool and the Mercs for Money comic from Marvel.
Despite the apparent secrecy surrounding Colossus and Negasonic’s return to Deadpool 2, they will no doubt prove to be the same lovable duo fans got excited for in their first appearance.
