Mad Max Is Tight-Lipped About Being a Stormtrooper in 'Star Wars'
Max Rockatansky might be a little short for a stormtrooper. Tom Hardy — who played Max, the mostly silent sidekick to Imperator Furiosa, in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road has been recently rumored as having a “surprise” cameo in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII as a stormtrooper, but he’s not giving away anything yet.
“I don’t know if I can even say that,” Hardy said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter when asked about the cameo rumor. “Where did you hear that? Ah, the Internet is a glorious web of deceit and misinformation, isn’t it?” When asked if it was “misinformation,” he responded with: “It could be, couldn’t it?” fanning the flames.
James Bond actor Daniel Craig played the part of one of the First Order’s stormtroopers, so having a big name behind one of those indistinguishable masks isn’t an unprecedented move. Craig played the stormtrooper charged with guarding Rey after she’d been captured by Kylo Ren and the first person in the film she successfully used the influence of the Force on.
But it’s doubtful that any stormtrooper played by Hardy would go full Finn and reveal himself in Episode VIII. Even if Hardy were to join in on the fun, audiences would still have to be told which one he was.
Star Wars: Episode VIII is set to premiere in theaters December 15, 2017.
