The Legends of Tomorrow Will Turn Dumb Because of George Lucas

by James Grebey

It was weird when the mid season finale of Legends of Tomorrow revealed that Rip Hunter was somehow alive and filming a movie about his own life in 1967. When the show comes back next year, though, it’s going to get even weirder — and George Lucas will be involved.

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim let slip to Entertainment Weekly that a young version of the legendary filmmaker behind Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark will play a crucial role in the mid season premiere. Due to a time aberration (probably having something to do with Rip), young Lucas is going to quit film school. As a result, he’ll never make A New Hope or Raiders in this new reality.

And that’s going to make Ray and Nate get dumber.

“Ray, who became an engineer because of Star Wars, and Nate, who became a historian because of Raiders, slowly start to lose their brilliance, because those things that inspired them to become who they are didn’t exist,” Guggenheim told EW, later describing it as a “Flowers for Algernon with Ray and Nate.”

Hopefully, the Force will be with the Legends as they try to set Lucas (played by actor Matt Angel) back on the right path when the series returns on January 24.
