Make it so…evil! Next spring, a goateed Mirror-Universe Captain Picard will make his comic book debut, and he’ll be hell-bent about stealing a warship called the Enterprise.

On May 6, 2017 — Free Comic Book Day — IDW will publish a prologue to Star Trek: The Next Generation: Mirror Broken, an upcoming comic miniseries ostensibly set in Star Trek’s famous evil alternate dimension: the Mirror Universe.

First introduced in the original series episode “Mirror, Mirror,” the Mirror Universe presented an alternate history of the galaxy where the Federation wasn’t benevolent, but instead the ruthless Terran Empire. Members of Starfleet didn’t believe in sleeves, Spock had a beard, and everyone was a giant asshole.

Then, decades later, Deep Space Nine returned to the Mirror Universe in the episode “Crossover.” It was revealed at that point that the Terran Empire had fallen, and was replaced by an even more oppressive Klingon-Cardassian Alliance. So, will IDW’s Mirror Broken be returning to the “real” Mirror Universe, or an alternate version of this alternate dimension? In theory, this version of the Terran Empire shouldn’t even have battleships.

The synopsis for the forthcoming comic series says this version of Picard will “stop nothing to get his hands on the Terran Empire’s newest starship, the Enterprise-D.” Will Picard be a Rebel? Did he steal his bracelet from Khan? And is Data a half-Borg in this reality? We’ll have to wait until May to find out!
