The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will cross paths with the Justice League of DC Comics, and their first impressions will be hostile. In a preview of Justice League/Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1 coming in January from DC Comics and BOOM! Studios, veteran DC writer Tom Taylor affirms the Power Rangers as formidable opponents against Batman when Angel Grove’s teens overwhelm the Dark Knight.
In a crossover comic book that Taylor says will be “above all else, a fun experience for fans”, the Power Rangers (sans Zack, the Black Ranger) encounter Batman and square off in a brawl. While trying to establish contact with his Justice League allies, Batman evaluates the superpowers of the Power Rangers, canonically confirming what superpowers they’re capable of.
“I’m fighting enhanced beings,” he says over mobile comms. Enhanced how? Batman evaluates: “Increased durability. Increased speed. And …” he says before taking a kick from the Green Ranger, “Increased strength.” So that’s the superpowers the Power Rangers have.
In the same preview, Tom Taylor and artist Stephen Byrne confirm that the mortal enemy of the Power Rangers, Lord Zedd, will team up with a yet-to-be named DC supervillain, prompting the Power Rangers to eventually work alongside the iconic Justice League. “[Lord Zedd] is going to be causing of a lot of trouble,” says Taylor. “But there will also be a villain from the Justice League’s dimension who will be part of the problem as well. That won’t be revealed until about Issue #2.”
In the limited series, Zack the Black Ranger gets thrown into the DC Universe, where he meets none other than Superman.
Justice League/Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1 will be released January 11, 2017.
