Peter Parker Is Antsy in First 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Trailer
The first trailer for Spider-Man’s standalone debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man: Homecoming, dropped on Thursday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The trailer opens with Spider-Man (Tom Holland) thwarting a group of bank robbers who are all wearing cheap Avengers masks — and of course Peter Parker sees right through ‘em. He clearly gets a rush out of fighting crime and being a hero after his big turn in Civil War, and his normal life seems too mundane now.
Then we see Peter’s normal school life as MGMT’s “Time to Pretend” plays in the background to really drive home the theme. Peter seems like he’s got a good, diverse group of friends. Even in this short trailer, he feels like an authentic kid in a way the character hasn’t in previous films.
Tony Stark (played, as always, by Robert Downey Jr.) is all over this trailer, and he wants to keep Peter from being a full-blown Avenger for the time being because he isn’t ready. Peter, of course, wants to use his great powers with great responsibility — especially when there’s a flying mechanical villain out there.
We don’t see too much of Michael Keaton’s Vulture, but what we do see looks sufficiently terrifying.
