Jyn Erso has had enough. The Rebel Alliance soldier and Death Star plan retriever worked with MTV to put out an important PSA to remind Star Wars fans, once again, the Rogue One hero is not Rey from The Force Awakens, also suggesting that, no, she is not related to Rey either.
Felicity Jones, the Oscar-nominated actor behind Jyn, released the humorous video on December 7 to put to bed a couple misconceptions about herself and her character. First: she is not Daisy Ridley, who portrays Rey in The Force Awakens.
“I know we both have dark hair and talk funny to you Americans, and I know we’re both in Star Wars, but yes, remarkably — two young, British women can exist in the same cinematic galaxy,” Jones says rather wryly. “I know. Crazy.”
Second: Jyn and Rey are not related. Rey’s parentage has been a contentious point in online Star Wars circles. Guesses range from Luke Skywalker to Han Solo and Leia to Obi-Wan Kenobi. Daisy Ridley recently said that she’s surprised fans haven’t already figured it out from The Force Awakens. She thought “a lot was answered” in the film.
That means we already know who Rey’s parents are. But, one thing’s for certain: it has nothing to do with Jyn Erso.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story starring Felicity Jones as Probably Not Rey’s Mom will be in theaters December 16.
