One of the best partnerships in Deadpool’s long history was with the mutant Cable. Now, Cable is back in a new solo comic which will emphasize his time-travelling bonafides by having the mutant fight a mysterious villain across history’s most famous time periods.
The time-travelling son of Cyclops and Jean Grey clone Madelyn Pryor, Cable was a nearly perfect foil to Deadpool when the two teamed-up for their popular series Cable & Deadpool, which often saw the two characters reluctantly partnered for some serious misadventures. Through it all, the two developed an odd friendship that survived even as serious threats to mutants endangered the two during their run.
Now Cable is set to return as part of Marvel’s big “ResurrXion” initiative which will see other mutants like Ice Man and Jean Grey get their own solo comics. These issues will release sometime after the big “Inhumans vs. X-Men” event that looks likely to restore Marvel’s mutants to prominence.
Writer James Robinson reveals that his book will focus on the fact that Cable is a “time warrior.”
“Time travel is part of his make-up in almost every aspect of his history — no pun intended[,]” says Robinson. “This series will be Cable on a race against time to fix time. And in the course of Cable’s mission, we’ll see him in a lot of great time periods like 15th century Japan, WWI, the Stone Age, Victorian England and on and on, with those time periods made more crazy and sci-fi by time being fractured by the villain of our series.
From the sound of it, Cable is shaping up to be a very ambitious book that will embrace the character’s displaced status. There will almost certainly be a Deadpool cameo at some point as well probably.
