'Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite' Trailer Debuts Captain Marvel

by Emily Gaudette

On Saturday, the first teaser trailer for Marvel vs. Capcom 4: Infinite, a cross-branded fighting game, hit the internet, sending shockwaves across two fandoms. Confirmed among the Capcom lineup are classic characters Mega Man X and Ryu, and it appears Marvel heroes Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers and Iron Man/Tony Stark will lead the charge on their end.

The game will be the first of its kind to feature 2-on-2 battles, as opposed to the classic (and often confusing!) 3 on 3. As the PlayStation official blog states, the name “infinite” comes from Marvel’s infinity stones, which have tied the MCU films together loosely since they began.

Infinite Power: Pulled from classic Marvel lore, unique and game-changing Infinity Stones can be implemented into players’ strategies as a way to influence the outcome of battle. Each Infinity Stone provides a unique advantage to the player and represents a different aspect of the universe: power, space, time, reality, soul, and mind.

Captain Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, who makes her first appearance in the game series in this trailer, will use “binary mode,” which some fans online have already dubbed “going Super Saiyan.”
