Princess Leia Cameo in 'Rogue One' Seems Really Likely Now
Princess Leia, you’re our only hope! With Rogue One two weeks away from its theatrical debut, all burning Star Wars questions about the film are soon to be answered. But will Princess Leia appear at the very end of the film?
Recent comments from director Gareth Edwards neither confirm or deny an appearance from Princess Leia in Rogue One, but one way of reading between the lines makes it seem like the beloved freedom fighter, along with her faithful droid R2-D2 will totally appear in Rogue One. When asked point blank by the French TV network TF1 about Princess Leia appearing in Rogue One, Edwards said “I cannot answer.” But, when asked about Luke Skywalker, he said “no.”
Edwards isn’t saying Leia will show up, but he’s not giving a flat “no” like he did with Luke either. From a story perspective, a Luke cameo makes a little less sense just because of where Luke is at this point of the story: It looks like he’s going nowhere.
Leia, on the other hand, is integral to the day-to-day operations of the Rebellion, and if you stop to think about it, probably should be in Rogue One right from the beginning. Leia’s adoptive father, Bail Organa will make an appearance, so why not the Princess herself? Archival footage of Carrie Fisher could be used, or maybe even a body double?
In the world of placing bets on Star Wars movies, the odds of Leia cameo in Rogue One seem pretty good. But everyone knows what Han Solo would say about the odds.
