The Telltale Batman origin story revolution continues with a new episode that finds Bruce Wayne imprisoned in Arkham Asylum and forced to rely on the help of his cellmate: the Joker.

After being imprisoned by the power-hungry mayor of Gotham, Two-Face, Bruce Wayne is wiling away his time in Arkham as Gotham goes to hell. He probably shouldn’t have slept with Two-Face’s girlfriend, or y’know, let half of his face get melted away. Now with the revelation that Vicki Vale has gone missing, Bruce needs to find a way out of the mental asylum, and his only friend in the clink just happens to be the Joker.

However, it looks like the desperate Bruce Wayne might just be willing to make a deal with the devil himself if it means getting out of Arkham and back into a batsuit so that he can save a vulnerable Gotham from the villains in power.

The preview for the new episode of Batman: The Telltale Series starts at the 2:16 mark of the video, and reveals a strange cat-and-mouse game between the Joker and Wayne. Things like the Joker hinting that he knows Bruce Wayne’s true identity, that he knows how Wayne’s parents were blackmailing the city’s elites, and that the Joker expects a favor in exchange for freeing Bruce.

So far, the liberties Telltale has taken with the well-tread Batman origin story has proven incredibly refreshing. Penguin’s reinvention as a criminal mastermind, Two-Face’s police state, and even the new Joker are all parts of the game that makes Telltale’s Batman story one of the most exciting new Batman stories in some time. It remains to be seen, however, how the choice to accept the Joker’s help will manifest into consequences in the future.

Batman: The Telltale Series is out now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
