John Boyega’s probably on the run from a Kaiju in Pacific Rim: Maelstrom. The son of the Stacker Pentecost, a Marshal in the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, Boyega’s character seems to have inherited his father’s penchant for heroism in the face of danger.
In new photos captured during filming for Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, the sequel to 2013’s Pacific Rim, we see Boyega in what looks like a pretty rundown area in tattered clothes. He’s carrying some kind of device — it looks like it might be a remote control? maybe some kind of detonator? — and seems to be looking for something. But things apparently go south, relatively quickly. Pentecost Jr. is making a run for it it. And though we can’t see what he’s running from, a pretty nasty gash on his face suggests that he won’t make it out totally unscathed. We still don’t know much at all about Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.
In fact, we don’t even have a first name for Boyega’s character yet, and beyond the fact that he’s Stacker Pentecost’s son, we don’t know anything about him. Filming’s clearly underway, though, which means that we’ll be getting more information as we draw closer to the films scheduled 2018 release.
Pacific Rim: Maelstrom is scheduled for release in 2018, but no official premiere date has been set.
